JUANITA LEONARD - American - Louisiana

In Her Own Words: I Have been painting for thirty years.I started painting at seventeen.I never sold no paintings then. My paintings are being sold across the USA. I have been in several magazines, and on the TV several times, and in many newspapers with my art. I have painted my house with my art, walls floors and cealing etc..I am a single black parent and self taught artist, that live in Louisiana. My daddy was a preacher who worked on a farm and the only work mine mom did was picked cotton, and she love it. Mommy had 13 childern, I am one of the seven girls. I use oil paint and acrylic, but I like acrylic the best because it drys fast. I love my church, yes me and my daughter just about built it all. I have people come a long way to see my house and my church, and for prayers. I minister to all in my church, God has been good to me, and He still bless me. God Bless you, Juanita Artist Juanita Leonard who has been painting for 30 years is a single mother who paints brilliant primitive figures in the style of the late Clementine Hunter. These wonderfully naive and upbeat creations are done on recycled wood paneling, cabinet doors and scrap wood.

Her paintings are in galleries across the US and CBS News did a report about Juanita in April 2007. She has also been featured in several issues of Folk Art Magazine and the Alexandria Art Museum did an exhibit of her work which included over 60 pieces.
