ALEEN AKED (1907-2003) Canadian/American
Aleen Aked studied under group of seven members Arthur Lismer, J.E.H. MacDonald, F.H. Varley and also George Reid. She was offered jobs at both Rous & Mann and with Fred Brigden. Her father became ill and she moved to Sarasota Florida to tend to him. She was a member of the Southern States Art League and the Sarasota Art Association. She exhibited regularly with both of these groups and served as president of the SSA in 1942. She continued to study in the US at the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota and privately under Abbott Graves ANA and Robert Brackman. She also exhibited regularly in Canada at the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE), Royal Canadian Academy (RCA) and Ontario Society of Artists (OSA). The Robert McLaughlin Gallery held a solo show of her work in 1989. She painted with Isabelle McLaughlin and Doris McCarthy.
