Robert Ecker Mezzotint

(Item: ECKER1S)
ROBERT R. ECKER - American

Occupation: Professor of Fine Arts, University of Colorado, Boulder, teaching drawing, painting and critical thinking. 1972-present.

From the Fall 2004 issue of Forbes FYI Magazine: Robert R. Ecker has been declared "ingenious" and a "find" by The New York Times, and a painter whose "works gleam with wit and art historical reference" by the Rocky Mountain News. His mysterious, precisely drafted works grace collections from the Smithsonian to the Denver Art Museum. But this former, longtime professor at the University of Colorado remains somehow below the threshold of popular recognition (and big-name pricing).

Education: Pennsylvania State University, M.F.A. 1965 Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, 1959-1962 Pennsylvania State College at Shippensburg, B.S. in Ed. 1958 Selected Awards and Fellowships: Colorado Council for the Arts Recognition Award in Painting 1995-96 University of Colorado Faculty Fellowships, 1980, 1986 National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, 1981 University of New Mexico D.H. Lawrence Fellowship, 1976 Boulder Arts Commission Award for Painting, 1985 Award of Merit, International Print Exhibition, Seoul, Korea, 1982 President's Purchase Award, Society of American Graphic Artists' 58th Exhibition Selected Solo Exhibitions: Washington State University, March, 2003 Regis University, Denver, Sept./Oct. 2002 Robischon Gallery, Denver, 1987, 1991, 1994 University of Delaware, 1992 Washington County Museum of Fine Art, Hagerstown, MD, 1991 Denver Art Museum, 1991 (70 works) Selected Collections: National Collection (Smithsonian) Denver Art Museum Pratt Graphics Center New York Public Library Library of Congress (Pennell Fund Purchase) The (Philadelphia) Print Club Crocker Collection Milwaukee Art Museum Indianapolis Museum of Art Wichita Art Museum
